Art Picture Playhouse Club

This exciting new project which echo’s back to the former glory years of the golden screen and  the club will adopt the then name of the theatre at the time when it was  taken over from the Sheffield Cinema Company  back in 1959.

Initially using the equipment that the theatre owns we will be screening 2nd showing cinema movies. These movies which have recently screened at the major cinema will be available to us to show prior to release on DVD.

Some of the 2nd showing blockbuster films available (Feb. 16)

The nature of this project is three-fold

1      To introduce a new audience into the theatre.

2      To support the Transition New Mills Initiative.

3      To bring together the local community.

Once the project is up and running we will post films that are to be shown on the website and also email out to the current membership. Initially screenings will be once a month but if the interest increases these will be more often

We anticipate that this will be either a Saturday or Sunday afternoon showing. Ice cream, and sweets will be on sale and the Bar will be open for drinks as well as tea and coffee. All seating will be in the circle, which seats 195 the stalls will not be open unless required due to numbers. The seating will be unallocated on a first come basis

So if you would like to support this new project please watch this space

This will be run as a the “Art Picture Playhouse Cinema Club” and everyone currently on our mailing lists will automatically become a member. Entrance to screenings will be on a donation basis and we suggest around £5.00 with  discount for family parties for up to six people.

If you have any particular films or genre that you would like to see please drop us an email with your suggestion and comments to:-

Following the 2015 AGM  we discussed the promotion of the theatre to the wide community. We are pleased to announce that  Mr Tony Audenshaw has accepted our offer and  has been appointed as the Theatres First Advocate.

Tony started in amateur theatre at The Carver in Marple before performing with Marple and Ashton Operatic Societies and Hyde Little Theatre.  He trained at the Guildford School of Acting and started his professional career touring with Ape Theatre Company and larking around at Thorpe Park theme park.  Since 1990 he has acted in numerous TV shows including Brookside, Where The Heart Is, Heartbeat, Hilsborough,  Peak Practice and Prime Suspect and the films Going Off Big Time and Raining Stones.  He has played Bob Hope on ITV’s Emmerdale since 2000 which has lead to appearances on the likes of Mastermind, Stars In Their Eyes, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Blankety Blank and The Chase.  Tony has lived in New Mills with his family since 1988 and loves running and birdwatching around its hills, playing in town with the band White Van Man and compiling the weekly pub quiz Quizit New Mills.

We hope Tony’s association with the theatre will be long and fruitful
